Splash Flash News - Splash in Swedish waters
Since Emelie Lindstrom took part in the World Championships Splash in Carnac, Swedish interest in the Splash has increased rapidly. Two weeks ago three Splashes were sent to Sweden to be used for a presentation at Gothenborg Yachtclub. During the weekend of the presentation many helms, both male and female, were there to test the Splash. They could also compare it to a Finnish dinghy, which was also promoted there. This Finnish dinghy, for the same age group as the Splash, has an overall length of 2.55 m. and a width of 1.45 m. It cost just a little more than the Splash. During the test the Splash proved to be favourite on all points. The Splash is faster, easier to handle, stronger, easier to put upright after a capsize and better built than the Finnish boat. This boat is not self-bailing after have been filled with water. This presentation was a very big success for the Splash. The three promotion Splashes were sold and ten new ones were ordered. A Swedish Splash Class organization will soon be set up, after which steps will be taken to promote the Splash in Norway. There will certainly be Swedish competitors at the World Championships Splash 2002 in England. The Splash is the fastest growing junior class in the Netherlands and an ISAF recognized international junior class. It is built under licence in New Zealand as well as North America and sold in more than 15 countries. The Splash is a Roel Wester design and marketed by Roel Wester BV of Grouw.
