During last “Vaarwelkom” event at Grouw for the Splash and the Flash, there were 125 entries, 32 of which were Flashes, it became clear that the Flash is becoming as popularas the Splash.

This only 18 months old class, with already over 100 boats in The Netherlands, grew with at least 23 in just one weekend. More and more Splash leavers are choosing the Flash now. The number of staring Flashes has grown with 78% this year.

For next year many big events are planned, with the Europe Cup at Carnac in France as the most important. The Europe Cup will be sailed simultaneously with the World Championships Splash, also held at Carnac.

The following events will be held in 2001:

• Easter Regatta Sneek;
• Dutch Championships Splash/Flash;
• Land Rover Challenge Cup;
• Special Flash event;
• Flash Europe Cup & WC Splash in France;
• 66th Sneekweek Regatta;
• And many more;

Because of the large number of ex-Splash sailors starting in the Flash, fleets of 50 or more Flashes in a race will no longer be an exception and the Flash will become one of the bigger classes in The Netherlands.
