Splash sails, made by North Sails.

Dear Mr. Feikens,

Last year the Splash builder for the United States, Melges of Zenda, applied for a license for the production of Splash sails. These sails would be made at the North Sails loft in Sri Lanka. Roel Wester, who issued the license, supplied a set of templates which was measured by me. The sail complied with the class rules. However, the battens were not of the make stipulated by the class rules.

The license holder was informed of this omission, but a reaction has not been received so far.
Roel Wester issued the license on condition, among others, that the sails should be marked as follows:
· A small sticker at 1 metre above the boom with the text: Made in Sri Lanka
· A sticker at the clew as shown below

By the end of last year the license was withdrawn as the sails appeared not to be made in Sri Lanka.

Apparently, some of these sails are used by Dutch helmsmen. These sails do not conform to the features mentioned above and, therefore, they may not be used in races.

Trusting to have informed you sufficiently, I remain,

Yours sincerely,

Alexander Verheus,
Chief Measurer Splash Class
