New Zealand Splash Class Association Newsletter- March 2003

This is a short newsletter to let you know how the special meeting went and the regatta results.

Special Meeting, 15th March, Torbay

A special meeting was held at Torbay during the Olympicsail regatta to take the Association another step nearer becoming an Incorporated society. There was nearly a full compliment of members present – thank you to all those that came. A motion was passed to adopt the amended constitution as had been circulated to all members. A second motion that the NZSCA become incorporated was also adopted. Therefore Chris Lambert is taking the required information back to the Lawyer, who has generously donated her time, and it should not be long before our incorporation is finalised.

Olympic Sail Regatta, Torbay, 15 & 16 March

A fleet of 10 Splashes were out on the waters off Torbay during this regatta which included a wide range of classes and some top sailors competing for Olympic selection. A lot of very positive comments were heard about the Splash and it was a great opportunity to promote the class.

Results:
1st Brett Elstob
2nd Jeffrey Clark
3rd Aevril Hibbard
4th Paul Lambert
5th James Gell
6th James Ledingham
7th Genna Hansen
8th Chris Wright
9th John Herring
10th Michael Hooper

The top four at this regatta, (Brett, Jeffrey, Aevril and Paul) are automatic selections for the team to attend the Splash World Championships in Holland in July 2003 and the selection committee have invited James (Gell), James (Ledingham), Genna and John to take up the other four places on the team. Congratulations to all the sailors. The team will undertake a full programme of training and regattas before the World’s and I will circulate the targeted regattas to all members so that you can come and push these team members along! We have identified a prospective coach for the team and this will be confirmed in the near future.

Our thanks go to Torbay Boating Club and YNZ for all the work in organizing and running this regatta.
